“10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers,[a] as you still do. 11 Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. 12 Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.”
God cares for all creation, and rejoices in those who follow his example. It is out of unconditional love that all God’s giving pours out. When we get in relation with God- and Love, care and give, as God does- we are rewarded in kind.
The writer of Hebrews knows this, and does his best to encourage the audience to do as God does- always. The act of Loving, on the scale that God Loves, inspires us to simply GIVE. Give in all ways—whether that is service, materials or talent. We are compelled to give with all our heart and being. As God does.
However, as the author points out, this way of being requires great dedication and stamina. It is not something to be done once. It is something we must consistently and continuously pour out of ourselves. Sometimes that takes a little extra from us—but in the end, the act of Love and giving often is its own great reward.
Doing and being this brings us closer to God- and what could be more abundant and rewarding than God? No greater reward than that could possibly exist, since God is in EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE!
Lord, we pray for strength to Love and give—for you inspire us to care for and about all of your creation. May we grow beyond our comfort zone, giving from our hearts, fully and lovingly!
